April 21, 2012 from 3-6pm at Cascade Winery, 4665 Broadmoor, Kentwood, Michigan (just south of 44th Street).

Sample delicious soups (and desserts) made by friends of GIFT, and vote for your favorites with your $$$. Taste locally made wines and beers. Bid on various auction items (including a Pride rainbow afghan). Tickets are $5 for GIFT members and for others if purchased in advance. They will be $7 at the door.

Transgender Faith Summit March 24th

GIFT is proud to be partnering with the Transgender Education Collaboration and Plymouth UCC to announce a Transgender Faith Summit to be held March 24th 2012 from 1 to 4 pm. This is an exciting chance to come together as a community to address what it means for faithcommunities to be transgender friendly. All people (of any sexual orientation or gender identity) are welcome to join us for discussion, speakers, and workshops. Hope to see you there!

GIFT Christmas Gathering December 15

Join GIFT for our annual Christmas gathering on Thursday, December 15.

Appetizers @ 6:00pm, Dinner @ 6:30pm, Auction @ 7:00pm, Christmas worship @ 7:30pm

Location: First United Methodist Church, main church building. Enter northwest corner door.

Please RSVP by December 12 if you are going to be at the dinner by emailing JimLucas@GaysInFaithTogether.org or call the GIFT office at 616-774-0446.

Please bring a dish to pass. Meat and beverages will be provided.

Also you are invited to bring a wrapped or unwrapped present. We will auction these off to raise money for GIFT. So bring some cash or a check as well!

Amazing National Coming Out Day Service!

The October 11 National Coming Out Day Service was an amazing success! With 170 people in attendance we nearly packed out St. John’s United Church of Christ (a co-sponsor of the event along with GIFT and the “Gay Christian? Yes!” Campaign).

The service included moving stories (including one by new GIFT board member Laura Busman), rousing music by the West Michigan Gay Men’s Chorus and the Plymouth United Church of Christ Chorus, and an inspiring message by Rev. Dr. Randall Jelks.

The Grand Rapids Press and Fox 17 News had reporters there.

The Arcus Foundation Renews Grant to GIFT

The board and staff of GIFT are thrilled to announce that the Arcus Foundation approved our recent grant proposal! The Arcus Foundation gave GIFT a grant of $55,000 for 2010 and 2011. The new grant will be for $60,000 for 2012 and 2013. The purpose of the grant is to fund the continued planning, launch, and ongoing implementation of the “Gay Christian? Yes!” Campaign.

The Campaign is a collaborative project of GIFT, area churches, other organizations, and individuals. Its mission is to promote the full inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people and allies in Christian churches and other faith communities.

Please join us in this Campaign! Most importantly, we need your prayers. We also need many volunteers and a great deal of financial support. The Arcus grant covers only a portion of the total costs of the Campaign.
