GIFT History
GIFT first began in August 2001. So we are a young organization with lots of youthful energy!
That does not mean we are immature, however. Our chaplain, Jim Lucas, has been providing support to LGBT people for over 10 years individually and in groups. He has spoken to thousands of people in churches, college and university classes, and other public settings. In early 2001, Jim received the Triangle Foundation’s Catalyst for Change Award for outstanding service to the LGBT community in West Michigan.
Also, our organizing committee consists of a talented and dedicated group of people with much insight, wisdom, and experience in ministry with LGBT people. All have been active in other organizations supporting and advocating for LGBT people and their families.
GIFT began in response to a need expressed by many people. We look forward to a long and successful future of providing faith-based support for LGBT people and education in the wider community. Please join us in making this future!
501(c)(3)
As of October 2003, GIFT has received its letter from the Internal Revenue Service designating us as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. That’s official IRS language meaning that we can accept U.S. tax-deductible contributions directly. Make out your check to “GIFT” and send it to:
